It's always a nice feeling for us at EtonDigital to launch a successfully completed project after weeks, or possibly even months or years, of hard work - to see how it performs once it goes public and to assist our clients in getting exactly what they want from it. So it's even nicer a feeling when four projects all reach this exciting stage at roughly the same time - which is precisely what we're celebrating this week!

Firstly we have TallyFox, a Switzerland-based professional collaboration service which is creating expansive and productive knowledge networks around various business and professional sectors such as Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Water services. They also offer a range of additional products, from branded workplace tools and conferencing services right through to sector specific surveys and data processing. Head over to the website to try a free demo and find out more!

Next up is a new website launched for Sociable Pharma - a market research and analysis company providing services for pharmaceutical and financial companies needing to stay abreast of developments in medical evidence and clinical practice. This service is provided by an innovative feature called Treatment Pulse, a strategic and tactical support tool which tracks new medical evidence and assesses its impact within the medical sector. Visit the site to find out more and join the network.

Thirdly, there is Laca.co.uk, a one-stop resource for informing, representing and connecting those involved in any aspect of the school food sector - from producers, suppliers and caterers to policy-makers and researchers. The site offers a range of membership options which open up a number of services including regular meetings, social events, a newsletter, professional training courses, an annual conference and much more.

And last but not least, we are proud to unveil a new homepage for the city of Novi Sad, Serbia which is home to one of our development offices. The site provides a full guide to news and events in the city as well as practical resources such as city guides, weather and further information points.

Thankyou to all those involved - staff and clients - in making these projects a success!

As the UK's biggest Drupal event, Drupalcon London, is currently underway (today is day 2 of 5), I thought I'd just post a quick reminder on here of some of the key details for anyone who might have missed some of the previous publicity for this excellent industry event.

We did a little preview of the event on this blog back in June, but for those that didn't catch it here's a quick overview of what's on offer this week:

5 day event taking place at Fairfield halls, Croydon, London

Around 40 separate sessions each and every day, organised by skill level (beginner/intermediate/advanced) and type (core/code/ecosystem/build/design/business)

The chance to meet hundreds of other Drupal professionals and experts

An excellent Sponsor fair, as well as plenty of fun parties and entertainment

While it's too late to register through the pre-event booking system, you can still find spare tickets on the Drupalcon forum where people who have them, but are unable to attend, are trying to find latecomers wishing to go.

The whole thing is of course well covered on Twitter, with @drupalcon being the official profile and plenty of activity around #Drupalcon now that the event is truly in full swing. As proud sponsors of the Drupalcon, Etondigital are also there in full attendance to enjoy this fantastic event and you can follow us with @etondigital for our thoughts and experiences (or even come and say hi in person).

Finally, for those unable to attend this year's event, there is the opportunity to see all of the keynote speeches from each day on the drupalcon website, either as a live stream or a recorded clip later on, so you can get involved in all the interesting post-lecture online chatter even if you can't be there in person.

Enjoy the conference, we will hopefully see you there!

Ladies and gentlemen, there can be no mistake - that time of year is once again upon us. Unexpected snowfalls amuse the young and frustrate the old, city centres teem with throngs of busy shoppers, and television listings start to look oddly familiar with their mix of Disney, Bond, Capra and, of course, The Great Escape. Yes, the festive period is now well underway...

It is also the time for reflection, as thoughts turn to the imminent passing of 2010 from present moment into something far less tangible. In a few more weeks we will once again switch our attention to the future, projecting our wishes and plans into the blank canvas of 2011, but for now we will roll 2010 around our mouth for just a moment longer, savouring and contemplating it one last time before moving on.

This I think is really what all those end of year 'best/worst/funniest/etc' lists are all about (that, and the need to produce something for a deadline) - and so, in the spirit of the season, we here are etonDIGITAL are also pondering the year that is soon to disappear irrevocably into the hazy mists of time.

All in all, we've had another busy 12 months which have seen the completion of various projects, large and small, from TallyFox to Synapse, BoxTop technologies to the new AnaIvanovic.com and plenty more. Our team has continued to expand - we now have twenty-five developers - and the growth of the company has also been reflected in the launch of a lovely new homepage which, like its predecessor, has featured in numerous online galleries.

On the blog too, there's been plenty of lively discussions and a variety of topics covered. In terms of companies, the major players on our minds were, perhaps unsurprisingly, Apple and Facebook. Apple continued to go from strength to strength with their iPad launch, officially bringing tablet computing into the mainstream (developers take note!) and signalling an ominous future ahead for the net-book. They even somehow survived a slightly below-par performance with dodgy iPhone 4 aerials, to see iTunes take the spotlight as the year drew to a close and an absolute shedload of Beatles singles and albums were purchased by patient fans who'd waited years for the band to finally arrive on the platform.

Meanwhile Facebook continued to develop at a significant pace - seeing the expansion of its mobile functionality with location-based app, Places, and then overtaking the 500 million user mark so quickly that the 600 m hurdle seems an imminent certainty, while Zuckerberg himself claimed Time magazine's person of the year award just last week. Also worth mentioning was the staggering infiltration of Facebook across the rest of the web - namely aided by their eponymous 'Like' button, which we quickly learned was pretty good news for boosting traffic.

Not that there hasn't been the odd scandal - the data portability disputes with Google continued, and were evident in a controversial Chrome app which briefly allowed contacts to be ported from Facebook - before it mysteriously disappeared. Then there was the alpha launch of privacy conscious rival Diaspora, though perhaps this was really more of a curiosity rather than a game-changer as they say...

In addition we had the high profile announcement of Facebook messages, not far after Google abandoned a similar project, Wave, which also sought to streamline the various strands of internet text-based communication into one universal medium. Aside from its abandoning of the Wave project, Google also endured a few other torrid episodes, including some unfortunate PR by way of incidents in Italy and China especially, before they eventually pulled their operation in the latter territory.

However, it wasn't all bad for Google - in fact it was mostly all good apart from those few issues mentioned above. In the smartphone market they continued to show significant growth in their market share (aided by lots of free apps), and we learned that you could now make your own app with the developer kit without ever needing to write a single line of code. On the subject of apps, we offered some showcases of a few top specimens out there, not only for Android, but also for Blackberry.

Elsewhere we watched as Internet Explorer continued to be the butt of many a nerdy joke - before finally hitting back with IE9 - seemingly a genuinely promising browser, and the first IE in a while to not get slated immediately by reviewers. Bing however came out slightly worse for wear after Google briefly experimented with coloured backgrounds for their search function, so another case of 'swings and roundabouts' for Microsoft. Likewise, in the world of gadgets, Amazon's Kindle finally started to boast highly enviable sales stats ('Apple-esque' I might even venture) in large part due to an iPad-desire-quashing price tag of only 109 GBP.

Finally, some pretty significant developments for the IT and tech industry in the UK were announced, namely in the form of the UK digital economy bill during the summer and, more recently, with Ed Vaizey's overhaul of the rules governing ISP's right to manipulate bandwidth on a site by site basis.

And so on... there was plenty more which got the discussion going on the blog, from social media and marketing, to SEO and 404 pages and pros and cons of PHP which I won't go into in full; suffice it so say that our archive has it all so have a gander if you fancy catching up with some more comments and analysis of the year's developments. All that remains for me to say is simply to wish all our clients and partners a lovely Christmas and all the best for the coming year :)

Happy Valentines day everybody from EtonDigital - we even got you all a present (well sort of...)

We're pleased to announce the completion of a number of great new projects, all going live in the past week or so, starting with the fantastic new AnaIvanovic.com - homepage of top tennis star Ana Ivanovic. The Drupal construction features massive social networking potential, with user profiles, facebook invite compatibility and fan groups, as well as interviews and updates from Ana and all the latest news on her career activities.

In addition to that, we've also recently unveiled RestaurantSupplier.co.uk - a directory aiming to connect restaurants and suppliers more closely, with free registration offered granting access to the full range of business tools aimed at helping businesses find the partners they're looking for.

Thirdly, freight software company BoxTop technologies has a new website at Boxtop.net with complete WordPress design, offering info on their full range of services, partners, company news, and case studies.

Last but not least is Atrium marketing consultancy - which has a brand new Drupal website at atriumgroup.com, once again, with full company info and service options for this prestigious firm (which counts Bupa, Cisco, and HM Revenue and Customs among its clients).

As always, well done to all our hard-working staff for delivering these projects to spec - and our clients who made it happen in the first place.

We here at EtonDigital make no secret of how much we like Drupal (check our blog for recent posts on the topic) and so it's no surprise we're quite liking the look of the newest addition to the Drupal product range - Drupal Gardens, which aims to remove the need for Drupal users to download code to run off their own servers, and instead offers a browser based interface (much like WordPress) for managing blogging, forums, social integration and loads more.

Currently Drupal Gardens is in invite-only beta testing mode, with general availability expected within the next few months (sign up at the DG homepage). Whatsmore all of these services will be free for the remainder of the year so don't miss out on the chance to sample these handy tools for free (before the pricing structure is applied following full launch).

For more info check out Drupal creator, Dries Buytaert's, blog post on the topic - or Techcrunch's excellent scoop.

(N.B. You can of course expect more coverage on this here as the Beta testing develops leading up to full launch - as well as incorporation of Drupal Gardens into EtonDigital's portfolio of tools and services).

EtonDigital is enjoying yet another busy month this November, with five new projects going live in recent days. Allow us a minute to introduce some of these latest creations and our clients, who have made it all possible...

First up is The Car Hub, a one-stop shop for all your motoring information needs, with featured news stories from motoring and motorsport, twitter updates, photo galleries, petrol price info, events, car rental and insurance deals and so much more. Visit thecarhub.net to explore this ambitious Drupal design for yourself.

Next up is Edengene, a leading business strategy and consultation agency which works to facilitate and manage sustainable corporate growth. With clients including Coca Cola, Boots, O2 and npower, you know you're in safe hands with Edengene. Another Drupal construction from ED - click onto edengene.com to find out more!

Document Boss is another of our recent Drupal babies, featuring both twitter feeds and blog posts linking you to the latest news on Document Boss, a global business-to-business deal-maker for companies in the software, hardware, ECM, BPM and BPO sectors. See the design over at documentboss.com

Last but not least, we have two smart WordPress sites for this November showcase, for Stockwells Pharmacy of Ealing, London and for RCS Recycling Ltd. Stockwells has for over 10 years catered for all the pharmaceutical needs of residents of Ealing and beyond, while RCS Recycling Ltd provides much-needed IT equipment recycling services throughout the UK. Check the designs over at stockwellpharmacy.co.uk and rcsrecycling.co.uk

Well, that's it for the current round-up - but I happen to know that this will not be the last of our November launches: you can expect a few more high-profile Drupal designs to be unveiled in coming days... But for now all that remains is to say once more thankyou to all the hard-working ED staff and, of course, our clients for their professionalism and dedication on these projects.

Amazon Web Services has recently announced the launch of a tidy looking new tool - the Import/Export service, which in essence allows clients to move large quantities of data from their own servers to Amazon's buckets (and vice versa) without having to do it over the internet (portable storage devices are instead employed). The service is out of limited beta and is currently available only for US users - with full global launch expected soon.

Ultimately the concept is a fairly simple, but very essential, one which looks set to greatly improve the data migration, data backup, and disaster recovery potential offered by AWS and importantly - to do so at a cost which represents good scalable value regard less of the size of business (or more accurately, quantity of data) in question. For example users with a T1 connection would find the Import/Export service cost effective when transferring 100Gb or more, while for a T3 the tipping point is at 2Tb or more, and so on.

With EtonDigital recently announced as one the inaugural members of the AWS solution providers, we are delighted to see the addition and expansion of this service, and look forward to working with it in the future. Nice work once again from the AWS team!

Alongside companies such as IBM, Accenture, Cap Gemini, and Oracle, EtonDigital has been working with AWS for a number of years, and is now delighted to participate in this exciting new development.

The goal of the AWS Service providers program is to nurture a growing community of independent companies offering business solutions based on AWS. The database of members (which includes ED) provides clients seeking solutions with a range of reliable and experienced developers, all endorsed by AWS.

Recently EtonDigital has seen the launch of a number of high-profile projects constructed using AWS tools, such as StoryVault (which has featured across national press), StudentBOX, Eezeer, Rokpool, and AnaIvanovic.com it is work such as this that is helping to build our reputation as a highly-regarded partner of AWS and leading solution provider.

We'd like to say a massive thankyou to all the EtonDigital staff, those over at AWS, and, of course, our clients - who've all worked hard to make this happen. For more info on the AWS solution providers program visit the AWS main page, where you can also find a comprehensive list of the inaugural founding members.
