Health IT: Will we be healthier in the future?

CES 2014 was about many things, and although IT fashion and home connected projects were dominating the trade show, we could also see how IT is improving the fields of medicine.

Let us see some of the latest projects and useful one as well (to indulge those vicious tongues who say that technology lacks of delivering useful things).

Can you imagine exercising when on a plane or in front of TV?

Tao is a computer mouse like device that teaches you 50 exercises based on the science of applying pressures. The device is also very helpful with statistics; it can tell you your heart rate, calorie intake, and more.  It has a gaming element as well.

The main idea of the device is to be accompanying element to your existing exercising routine, and founders are also working on device’s therapeutically usage (after surgeries or stroke). With this device you can work out anytime and anywhere (at least that’s the idea).

Have you ever forgotten to take a pill? Now, you will never ever forget again.

Adhere Tech’s smart pill bottle will remind you when you need to take the medication and it will make sure that the dosage is the right one.  The bottle connects wirelessly to a cloud service and collects the data ensuring that the patient takes the pill on time. You will be reminded either through text message, phone call or the blinking light on the bottle.

Don’t know when to work out? Reign will tell you.

Fitness wearables are growing in popularity, that’s for sure. JayBird’s Reign will monitor your sleeping and other activities, with focus on those that include physical activity and sport. This fitness tracking wristband can actually tell you when your body wants (is ready) to exercise, and that’s not all, because Reign will tell you when your body needs rest.

You will know whether you had slept for too long, (and the quality of sleep), and whether or not you should get more sleep to be your perfect self the next day.

Didn’t have a good night sleep for a while? With Withings you will (or should).

One more device is on the market that will help people sleep more peacefully, comfortably and above all have a good and healthy sleep. Withings have created a new active sleep device called Withings Aura that will help us track our sleeping patterns.

The device records all of yours sleep patterns and use light and sound programs that record body movement, breathing cycles, and heart rate, as well as room temperature, light levels and noise pollution. When the device collects the data, it produces a sound and light programs according to the user’s body clock.

Ever dreamed of having your personalized fitness couch? It seems we have one now.

Fitbug designed a wearable device that is in fact a 12-week program created by dietary and fitness experts.  The name of the program is KiK (which sounds naturally due to its purpose), and the program is to help people with fitness advice and encouragement, especially those that want to lose weight after having a baby, to manage diabetes or improve mood.

Need an easier way to track your heart rate? LG brought one.

While Lifeband Touch is more than just an activity tracker, earphones are more unusual product. The device measures blood flow signals from the inner ear to get the accurate biometric data on maximal oxygen consumption and heart rate. The data collected can be sent to the Lifeband Touch or to your smartphone.

Needless to say that among medical professionals and scientist opinions differ, and while some say that IT will and is revolutionizing the medicine, others argue that IT has a negative effect.

Perhaps it is not due to IT, but the laws we have that don’t make the most out of this “business”. Or the laws we don’t have, as a matter of fact.

We’d love to work with you on your project!
