New in Drupal 8

What’s New With Drupal 8?

Tuesday, 13 October, 2015 Updated on Thursday, 8 July, 2021 by Eton Digital team

Drupal 8 release candidate is here!

From its first lines of code, Drupal was and is a platform built by and for participation and collaboration.

With more than 200 new features and improvements, and many of the top Drupal 7 modules that are now included in core, Drupal 8 is setting a new standard for developing and supporting online content and digital experience.

The need to modernise Drupal resulted in having everything you need already in Drupal 8 core.

Drupal isn’t only a free software, and Drupal 8, representing the largest change to the code-base, comes with a number of new features and improvements for everyone, both users and developers.

What’s new in Drupal 8?

Drupal 8 provides new ways to tailor and deploy content that looks great on any device, easily customisable and flexible for end users (and clients), being it site administrators, digital marketers, content managers, web developers or business decision makers.

As Drupal 8 is mobile first, comes with new authoring improvements and mobile-friendly administration.

For site builders, there are improved data modeling tools and page building, and views in core are fully customizable (Admin listings, Sidebar content, Image galleries, Slideshows, REST output).

Adapting to multilingual needs is easier than ever before – there is now translation on almost anything, (once those modules are enabled, you can almost immediately start translating) which will result in better language and global support.

We can see many great improvements for designers (new front end libraries, HTML5 Form Elements) and developers (modern, object-oriented code, latest PHP standards, many external libraries: Composer, PHPUnit, Guzzle, Zend Feed Component) and more improvements. And, instead of an upgrade path, Drupal 8 will have a migration path.

The object-oriented Symfony components are in place, and the core functionality of Drupal is set: the first release candidate provides a great opportunity to start developing new sites with Drupal CMS and work on projects that will take months of development time.

We look forward to working with it! Check out the way to get involved!
